Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre and Itamar Ben-Gvir
The Israeli government will be paying millions of shekels to finance the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by illegal settlers.
The Israeli government has committed to financing the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by illegal Israeli settlers, according to Israeli media reports on Monday, marking an inflammatory first for the Israeli regime.
Israeli public broadcaster KAN11 revealed that the office of "Heritage" Minister Amichai Eliyahu, an extremist known for his anti-Palestinian stance, will allocate two million NIS (approximately $545,000) for this controversial project slated for implementation in the coming weeks.
KAN11 further reported that the "Heritage" Ministry has been in contact with the Police Ministry, led by the far-right Itamar Ben-Gvir, to secure the necessary permissions from Israeli police for the settlers' funded incursions into al-Aqsa.
Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas condemned the decision, saying it was a dangerous escalation further labeling it as playing with fire that will lead the region to a religious war.
This announcement follows a statement made by Ben-Gvir on Monday during an interview with the Israeli Army Radio, where he reiterated his policy of allowing Israeli settlers to perform prayers inside the al-Aqsa Mosque. Ben-Gvir emphasized that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was aware of this policy prior to the formation of the coalition government.
The inflammatory nature of the plan is exacerbated because it contradicts Netanyahu's repeated claims of preserving the status quo at al-Aqsa Mosque. The status quo, established before the Israeli occupation of eastern al-Quds in 1967, placed the holy site under the authority of the Islamic Waqf of al-Quds, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments.
The Golem in Ben Gvir’s Mirror
When the last election in Israel brought Netanyahu back into power, he had to reach to the far-right in order to create a coalition to keep him there. That coalition sparked an immediate conflagration in which the tenuous unity of Israelis went through a baptism by fire. From language in the coalition agreement threatening women with jail time for dressing immodestly or encouraging the removal of women from public spaces, to the extremist version of judicial reform that brought vast numbers of Israelis out to protest, the fundamental notion of Jewish peoplehood seemed to be drastically undermined. And at the centre of all of this is one politician, Itamar Ben Gvir, whose adulation of a dead terrorist clearly underpins many of his actions today — actions that have done, and continue to do, the government and world image great harm. And it is his affiliation with said dead terrorist, Baruch Goldstein, that is the most alarming window into who Ben Gvir is, and what his future portends for him and all of us.
Israel's new far-right: Who is Itamar Ben Gvir?
The Rise of Itamar Ben Gvir
In the March 2020 elections Itamar Ben Gvir’s Jewish Power party was shunned by other right wingers and managed 0.42 per cent of the total votes. Vetoing him was so self-evident, Naftali Bennett wrote at the time, that he was amazed he even had to explain it. But having joined up with National Union chair Bezalel Smotrich, the alliance is polling at 10 per cent and could be a key player after the elections if the Netanyahu-led bloc gains a majority of Knesset seats. Fathom Deputy Editor Calev Ben-Dor explores the reasons for Ben Gvir’s rise.
Ben Gvir first came to infamy as a teenager when he stole the Cadillac emblem from the car of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin. ‘Just as we got to his car’ the earnest Ben Gvir told the camera, ‘we’ll get to him too.’ Within weeks Rabin had been assassinated. Over the years, he has had countless run-ins with the police and courts. Ben Gvir was convicted of incitement to racism, interfering with a police officer performing his duty, and support for a terrorist organisation, Meir Kahane’s Kach Movement (he has also successfully sued the state for hundreds of thousands of shekels in compensation for wrongful accusations). Due to these convictions, the IDF thought it too dangerous to draft him when he was eighteen.
Before being banned in 1988 for inciting racism, Kahane’s political party had successfully entered the Knesset in 1984. While he promoted legislative proposals such as revoking citizenship for non-Jews and banning Jewish-Gentile marriages and sexual relations, other parliamentarians shunned him. Whenever he approached the podium to speak, Likud Prime Minister Yitzchak Shamir would lead the Likud faction in a demonstrative walkout. Kach never gained mainstream popularity – at its electoral height in 1984 it garnered 25,000 votes. As Shaul Magid writes in his book, Meir Kahane: The Public Life and Political Thought of an American Jewish Radical, Kahane was ‘known as an ideologue and a voice for a disenfranchised and angry segment of the Israeli population.’
Kahane to Ben Gvir: How the far right became front and centre of Israeli politics
Over 30 years ago Kahane and his Kach party were banned from the Knesset. His ideology was deemed racist and too extreme for Israeli society. However, Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition with the far right last year, has not only brought Kahanism back to the Knesset, it has handed it more power than ever before.

Israel's new far right: Who is Bezalel Smotrich?
Who was Rabbi Meir Kahane?
Former member of the Knesset and one of Itamar Ben Gvir’s personal heroes, Rabbi Meir Kahane is an influential figure on far-right Israeli politics, but have you heard of him?

Fact Sheet: Meir Kahane & The Extremist Kahanist Movement
Who was Meir Kahane?
Meir Kahane, born Martin Kahane in Brooklyn in 1932, was an Orthodox rabbi who espoused a virulently racist ideology, founding a violent Jewish extremist movement and fascist political party in Israel.
Kahane’s followers have murdered dozens of people and injured hundreds of others in numerous violent attacks against Palestinians, Americans, and others in Israel, the occupied Palestinian territories, and the United States. As a result, his Kach party, Jewish Defense League, and offshoots were labeled terrorist organizations by the US government. Kahane himself was arrested approximately 70 times in the US and Israel for planning and carrying out violent attacks but never received any serious punishment for his crimes.

Baruch Goldstein: Legacy of a Massacre
On the festival of Purim in 1994, Israeli-American doctor Baruch Goldstein opened fire in the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, killing 29 Muslim worshippers. Condemnation was swift and decisive, but among the voices of dismay and repulsion were those who supported Goldstein’s actions and honored him after his death. Noam Weissman explores the background of the massacre, the events that followed and asks important questions about Jewish terrorism.

Al Halil massacre: Three decades on, Israeli bloodlust continues
Exactly 30 years ago, a Zionist settler unleashed terror on the Ibrahimi Mosque, killing dozens of worshipers.
February 25 marks the 30th anniversary of the Al Halil massacre, also known as the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre, perpetrated by extremist Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.
The mosque is located in the southern West Bank city of Hebron.
For Muslims, the significance of the mosque is profound, as they hold it sacred, believing it was constructed above the tomb of Prophet Ibrahim.
Palestinians residing nearby would gather inside the mosque and offer prayers five times a day along with their families, friends and loved ones.
How the massacre unfolded
During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, hundreds of Palestinians gathered for dawn prayers inside the mosque complex in the early morning of February 25 1994.
As the devotees prostrated in prayers, a Zionist terrorist named Benjamin Goldstein broke into the mosque and opened fire on them.

Israel vs. International Law – Why Erdan Wants to Destroy the UN
Though for Palestinians, such facts remain devoid of practical meaning, for Israel, the UN position is a major obstacle in the face of its blatant settler colonial project.
In an interview published in the Israeli newspaper Maariv on August 20, the disgruntled envoy said that “the UN building should be closed and wiped off from the face of the earth.”
Whether Erdan has made this realization or not, his aggressive statement indicates that his four-year career as Israel’s top UN diplomat was a failure.
……
Israel has had a long and troubled history with the United Nations and other UN-linked institutions. According to Israel’s political discourse, the UN is an ‘antisemitic’ organization, a label Israelis often invoke when their country is subjected to the slightest criticism.
Israel’s relationship with the UN is particularly odd because Israel was created by a UN decision, itself a direct outcome of UN political intrigues and western pressure.
On November 29, 1947, the UN passed resolution 181, calling for the division of historic Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. It assigned most of the land, 56 percent, to the Jewish population, then a minority, and the rest to the Palestinian Arab natives.
Shortly after, Jewish Zionist leadership began a military campaign that conquered most of Palestine and ethnically cleansed most of its original population.

Extended Fire on Greek Tanker Highlights Yemeni Military Capability and Shipping Risks
The Greek oil tanker "Sounion," targeted by the Yemeni Armed Forces in the Red Sea, has been burning for three days, according to the so-called European "ASPIDES" operation.
This underscores the significant strategic achievement realized by targeting the ship. The impacts of this achievement are expected to extend beyond the destruction of the massive vessel, likely leading to new increases in insurance and shipping costs for ships associated with the Zionist entity, the United States, and the United Kingdom in the coming period. It is also anticipated that more companies, which have continued to violate the ban on accessing the ports of occupied Palestine, will reassess their positions.
According to a statement released by the European forces in the so-called "ASPIDES" naval operation on Monday, the fire has been ongoing on the "Sounion" ship since August 23, which means it has been burning for three days.
The statement noted that there are "five fires in at least five locations on the main deck of the ship," with estimates indicating that these fires are around the ship's oil tank openings.
It added that "part of the upper structure is also burning."
The statement confirmed that "there are no clear signs of an oil spill," contradicting the claims the United States attempted to promote in recent days regarding sea pollution. The U.S. has a history of spreading such claims after every significant naval operation in an attempt to cover up its failure to halt Yemeni operations supporting Gaza.
The European "ASPIDES" mission account published photos showing the ongoing fires aboard the ship.
The continued burning of the ship for three days enhances the impact the Yemeni Armed Forces intended to achieve by targeting and capturing images of its burning. This includes placing companies violating the ban on accessing the ports of occupied Palestine once again before the seriousness and severity of the consequences facing their fleets.
The "Sounion" is considered a "SuezMax" class ship, which is the largest size of ships that can pass through the Suez Canal fully loaded. Its burning represents a huge loss for the owning and operating company, making other companies realize that the risk is not just a minor blow that can be endured, but that the armed forces are ready and capable of intensifying their operations to cause substantial damage.
Accordingly, it is expected that insurance rates for ships linked to the Zionist entity and those belonging to companies dealing with it will rise significantly in the coming period, as happened after the sinking of the "Rubymar" and "Tutor" vessels, where insurance rates for ships at risk of targeting jumped to 1% of their value.
Consequently, shipping costs to the Zionist entity, in particular, and to the United States and the United Kingdom, are likely to see new increases in the coming period due to heightened risks.
Data from the global "Drewry" container index showed new increases in shipping prices from China to New York and Los Angeles in the United States at the end of last week. This coincides with the Yemeni Armed Forces' pursuit of the "Sounion" and "North Wind" vessels after several weeks of slight price decreases.
The images of the ship burning and the photos showing it burning for three days will remain a clear testament to the disastrous failure of American and European forces to halt Yemeni operations supporting Gaza.
This failure was openly discussed after the release of the burning footage. Bill Roggio, a researcher at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (a pro-Israel American lobbying organization), mocked the American alliance in the Red Sea, commenting on the footage broadcast by Yemeni military media that "there is no guard or prosperity" and that "it would have been better for the U.S. to have done nothing rather than to show its failure and complete lack of will and competence."
The British newspaper "The Telegraph" also reflected this by stating that Yemenis "defeated the U.S. Navy," confirming that no ships belonging to the so-called "Prosperity Guard" coalition remain within a 500-mile (about 1000 kilometers) radius in the operational area.

US trying to stage a coup in Georgia: Russia
"Of course, this scenario is not new: distorting the facts and promoting, and inciting people to be in the streets and bloodshed... in fact, this scenario has been played out many times in different countries," the source noted, noting that the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service rejects the hypothesis that the Georgian opposition is capable of carrying out the coup plan; because despite all the efforts of the West, the opposition is still collapsing.
Despite street protests and condemnation from the West, Georgia passed a law on "foreign agents" in June that has greatly escalated internal tensions in the country. This law, which the opponents call the "Russian law", has faced the interventionist statements of the United States and Europe and has significantly reduced the possibility of Georgia joining the European Union.

The many faces of the Italian green transition (IT)
In the media, we hear politicians from all sides constantly talking about the need to transition to a green economy, to abandon fossil fuels and expand the role of renewables. At the same time, Eni has started producing gas from one of the four wells drilled in the Strait of Sicily in recent months.
The exploitation of Argo Cassiopeia (this is the name of the deposit) is linked to the installation of a quantity of solar panels that will guarantee carbon neutrality for the activities carried out. But it is still the extraction of – it is expected – 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas, to burn and consume.
Although in government and Brussels strategies gas is considered a less polluting source and a tool for transition to cleaner energy, this initiative evidently continues to look at fossil fuels. As has been done in the last couple of years with many agreements made to break away from Russian gas.

Zeteo spoke to Lazzarini:
Mehdi: How does Gaza compare to all the other humanitarian nightmares you've covered you've had to tackle?
Philip Lazzarini, UNRWA chief: Well, first of all, It's a war taking place in an area where people have nowhere to flee, and this is quite exceptional. There is no border to cross, and people are constantly on the move. Traditionally, when you are in a conflict situation, you might be pushed once, moved once or twice, you cross the border, but you are settled until the end of the war. This has not been the case in Gaza. If you listen to the people there, people have been displaced 15, up to 20 times. They have absolutely nowhere to go. But the other element which strikes me is the absence of international media.
How is it possible after 10 months to be in such a highly mediatized context that international media are not allowed to see by themselves what is really going on? And that means in this world there is also a very strong element of propaganda.
And today, when I talk to my staff, they are saying that in reality, people today are so resignated that they are just waiting for their turn to be killed in the Gaza Strip. This is absolutely heartbreaking because people have lost faith of a possible better future.
