The right of all peoples to self-determination is one of the core principles of international law and, by virtue of its erga omnes status, it is the responsibility of all states to ensure that this right is realised. The obstruction or violation of this principle, particularly through the use of force, constitutes a very serious violation of international law.
In the opening chapter of the UN Charter, respect for the right to self-determination of peoples is mentioned as one of the purposes of the United Nations.

In 1989, world leaders made a historic commitment to the world’s children by adopting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention explains who children are, all their rights, and the responsibilities of governments. All the rights are connected, they are all equally important and they cannot be taken away from children.

Side note on the recent US Supreme Court ruling that a president has immunity for official acts. That was for protection from all the illegal acts committed by many US Presidents against international and domestic laws. (The latest being Biden’s complicity in genocide.) The collapse of American law from its basis in facts has been underway for years. US law is about making challenges to official narratives illegal and labeling Americans who voice dissent “domestic terrorists”. US law is now being used to prevent the US public from having any capability to constrain the ruling elites. No one seems to care. The good news is this law (and others) only apply in the USA not in the international world.
